British Solomon Islands 1973
British Solomon Islands Electricity Authority, Honiara
My position was Secretary to the statutory electricity authority
which turned out to be a real cushy number. Had a beautiful house
on Lengakiki Ridge overlooking the the town and the sea, bought a
second-hand British car, and settled in for the long haul. But soon
the usual feeling of boredom set in. Set myself new challenges by
rationalising the authority's billing system and cleaning the deadwood
out from the stores inventory. But despite a lovely life style which
meant sailing my CORSAIR at the Point Cruz Yacht Club, going to the
G-Club and playing tennis and joining the chess club once a week on
the verandah of the Mendana Hotel, I couldn't resist the temptation to
return to Bougainville.
